adept stuck configuring openvpn

Asked by copsewood

I'm trying to apply the security fixes concerning the ssl security bugs. This seems to have gone without hitch on my Debian Etch server, but on my Kubuntu desktop the Adept updater has been stuck for half an hour on "configuring new version of openvpn" at 85% complete. I don't mind reinstalling openvpn but what is the best way to resolve the problem ? This might be a bug in the patch for openvpn or its packaging given it causes Adept to hang.

One hour later - killed adept and rebooted to remove the dpkg lockfile. Ran apt-get update, apt-get upgrade. This resulted in dpkg prompting for information on the openvpn configure. Answered dpkg questions, then apt-get remove openvpn seemed to have cleaned the package database.

Question: why did the adept front end not transmit the dpkg question to the user ? I had used the show detail button on adept but this displayed a blank window. Possible Adept bug ?

copsewood,

Command line is as usual always the better way to do things easily.
If you come across this problem again, then, please do file a bug.
