Need to have Adobe Reader 9.4.2 to be able to download E-ticket do I have to disable any antivirus software if so how?

I am running on Ubuntu 10.04 a system I have inherited and have no expertise in. I have always continued to apply updates when requested but that's about all I do. I now need to print E-tickets etc. and have been unable to so far.

If you want to view PDF files then you will have evince which can view them nicely

 In Linux there are a number of PDF readers. You can, of course, get Adobe, but others will usually be of equal or superior ability.

To find what PDF readers are available, go to menu bar, and under "System", select "Administration" then select "Synaptic Package Manager". It will prompt you to enter an administrative password (which I sincerely hope you inherited along with the system, (probably so, since you are doing updates (GOOD))).

When the window opens, you will see a search box on the top center and magnifying glass next to it, with the word "Search" beneath it. Click on the Magnifying glass and in the text box enter "pdf" and click search.

Wait a second, and various programs that have different pdf abilities will be displayed. If there is a green shading on the left side, the package is already installed. Some of your choices include Adobe options. Explore.

When ready to add a package, place a click in the box on left. Click all of interest. Then click the green "Apply" at the top. The packages will be installed, usually, added to the main menu.

I think PDF readers are added to the main menu under "Applications, Office", but could be wrong.

Thank you to those who replied. I'm not totally sure which action has
allowed me to print a claim form that I previously couldn't print. I
am afraid I chickened out of printing today's E-tickets sending them
instead to my brother's email add. where he has successfully printed
them (on microsoft). The original E-ticket that I have not been able
to print has now disappeared from my email and I fear I will have to
get in touch with the airlines to sort this out.

Thank you again. I am keen to keep Ubuntu but am finding it difficult
to navigate.

You can install Adobe Acrobat in Ubuntu if you want.
