Fan won't spin down on T420 after an Ubuntu update, 11.10

Asked by jkbkot

I installed an update yesterday, and since then the fan on my T420 started spinning at the highest speed all the time.

I see that the two/three last updates included acpid and linux-image-generic.

Does this qualify for a bug report? I'm not sure how to debug it myself. Perhaps I could try to boot a previous kernel...

Try:

echo "options thinkpad_acpi fan_control=1" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/thinkpad_acpi.conf

Reboot to test
