location dir_colors configuration file

Asked by Gerrit Holl

Where can I find the dircolors configuration file, where the colouring for directories, executables, images etc. is defined? Presumeably it's somewhere in /etc, but where is it exactly? On my previous (Fedora) installation, it was in /etc/DIR_COLORS. Of course, I can redirect dircolors -p to a file, change the file and input it in my bashrc, but somehow I feel like if I do that, I am reinventing the wheel.

In Ubuntu/Debian there is no predefined dircolors configuration file; we use the default precompiled one (with a patch do add a couple of TERMs).
The best is indeed to generate one as you suggested which you can then edit and use in .bashrc

Can you help with this problem?
