Grub error

PLEASE HELP

Thanks for being help for me.
                    I think karmic mean "ubuntu 9.10"then yes i install it to my portable hard but now XP also want work(and the ubuntu).when i start my lap top same thing happen. this is the command that i get

                                GRUB loading
                                 error:no such disk
                                 grub rescue>

You may download "Super Grub Disk" iso file and burn it into CD, Place it and restart -you may have the solution.

Are your two disks are different ( I mean one is IDE and other SATA)?
If yes then this is most likely to happen.
Super Grub Disk will also may not be helpful in this case.

If not, then please provide the output of following command :
sudo fdisk -l
Also provide the contents of /boot/grub/grub.cfg file.

Yes One of my disks are sata Hard drive
Can u tell me how to fix this problem

Ok.
First boot with a LiveCD.
mount /boot partition of HDD.

open the file device.map with the command :
sudo gedit <mountpoint>/grub/device.map
in this file there will be entries for your HDD.
it will be something like
(hd0) /dev/hda
(hd1) /dev/sda

now just swap the lines, it should look like :
(hd0) /dev/sda
(hd1) /dev/hda

save the file and reboot.
If it boots, fine. If not then reinstall the grub and reboot.
If you don't know how to do the above steps then provide the
output of :
sudo fdisk -l
and we will tell you the exact commands.
