Dell E520 with 7.04 fails to boot

new Dell E520
normally shutdown each day
normally system will fail to restart on 1st attempt to boot
have to turn off and re-boot
generally successful on 3rd/4th attempt

what can I look for?
has done this since I tried to use and then removed the nvidia-glx for 3D graphics

Please could you tell us what is the problem when it doesnt start? What there is in the monitor?

Have been on the phone with George at Dell this AM (btw, a GREAT resource)
problem appears to be in s/w related to the dual-core
will post the resolution to the forum when I get it from Dell.

Just curious, was this one of the ones that Dell sells pre-installed with ubuntu? I think it's cool they have these.

I don't actually have an answer but I do have a D620 that did not come with ubuntu. However, it works beautifully with 7.04.

One thought. I have had had trouble booting ubuntu with a usb hub attached. Sometimes I had to boot a second time for it to work. Eventually I figured out that if the hub was attached and I had previously booted windows that it would fail on the first boot of ubuntu. Not sure that's related to your issue but something to consider.

problem is with dual-core system
workaround is to disable dual core and run on just 1 cpu
Dell working on patch for Ubuntu. Patch out now is for MS systems only.

Wow, weird. Aren't you lucky to discover that little bug and I guess I'm lucky to have avoided it. I have a T7400 but it wasn't clear if I was part of that problem or not. However, I have ubuntu running just fine with both cores seen and active. Hope they get that fixed soon.
