Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

Dr. Schueler,

It is hard to gauge what your needs are with your description. There are a number of CAD programs available for different purposes, and of different quality. Here are some URLs to information that might help you:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Free_computer-aided_design_software
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Linux_computer-aided_design_software
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/4411/

Let me know if you have more questions about the availability of CAD software in the Linux world.

Why is this question still shown/listed in status "Open" although some people already gave an answer?

Clarification: the package manager ( Synaptic) does not list any of these.
Thus with your info *we have ID'ed the bug* >
such packages do exist, but are not listed.

An Ubuntu Linux specialist did help search before my report.

dariocaruso, one possibility is if you already have a copy of AutoCAD, you might be able to run it using Wine. See the following for some information regarding other users' experiences with different versions of Wine: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=86

Another possibility is to run Windows within a virtual machine like VirtualBox, and then run AutoCAD from within that. I know several engineers who are Mac users that go with that option, due to AutoDesk's limited Mac support.

Here one for Lininux
http://www.cad-schroer.com/index.php?&ziel=Products-MEDUSA-M4Personal&land=com&scr=1.4

Please read but it is for RedHat
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?id=13583898&siteID=123112#QUAL/maya_70_linux.html

Then please read this
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox-ose/+question/83242

In Linux there are many, very good, software for GIS Geographical Information System

Installing a Windows on a virtual-pc with Virtualbox http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Screenshots or other virtualization software is a working different solution.

Dr Schueler, I don't know for certain what is available, but there are some additional package repositories that are available that might contain the software you need. From Synaptics, you can find a list of available repositories and activate them. Particularly the Universe and the Non-Free (free as in libre) repositories -- I don't know if they are active by default.

Another repository that might be useful is http://www.opennovation.org/ubuntu/, but I cannot vouch for them.

In addition, many of these programs may offer as a download .deb files, which you can use to install the programs. Or, as a last resort, you could compile from source.
