you dont need the driver that came for windows. If you search the Ubuntu repos there is probably a generic driver that covers Lexmarks. Install that with synaptic and everything should be fine

P.S, some vanilla drivers may already be installed

I've heard that lexmark printers are not well supported in linux but I don't know if that means they don't work at all or just need a bit more configuring. The easiest way to try and get it set up is to go to system -> admin -> printing. I don't know why but I have two printing options. If you do too, choose the one that brings up a window with an icon that says new printer. Double click that and then go through the setup screen.

I've heard the same thing Jim. I tried what you suggested and it doesn't seem to be working. You're right though. Lexmark printers are not well supported by linux, so I'll just try what Sam suggested. If that doesn't work i'll just move on. It's about time for a new printer anyway. Thanks for the help guys.

For the Lexmark, you might check this page

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsPrinters/LexmarkPrinters

If you don't have any luck with the Lexmark and end up buying a new one, I've heard HPs work well. My mother has one and was able to set it up with ubuntu without trouble (and she is just a Linux beginner). You might also check the various hardware compatibility lists. This might be a good place to start

Good luck.

Exactly what I'm going to do. Thanks Jim. I've also heard that epson printers work as well, so I'll look at them both, but I'll double check the compatibility lists you mentioned.
Thanks again.
