(Xorg) /usr/bin/X11/X memory usage problem (9.10)

Asked by U_Zuhl

Ubuntu starts perfectly and there is no par problem.
On start / usr/bin/X11/X (Xorg) uses about 2% of RAM for a total of 2GB (all normal).
The problem comes later when often minimize and maximize any window (evolution, terminal ...) the memory used by /usr/bin/X11/X grown steadily going 8%, 15%, 20% ...
I have not installed beryl or compiz and desktop effects are disabled.

This is the top output when I minimize and maximize 30 times a window of gnome-terminal (22,5% of 2GB):
 2045 root 20 0 1206m 452m 17m S 1 22.5 1:52.54 Xorg

Is this normal?

Hi U_Zuhi,

No, it is not. X should not increase memory usage like that. There are some known issues with memory management but, since you did not state your Ubuntu version, I have no idea if this may, or may not, be already solved.

Anyway, it would be a good idea for you to make sure you are up-to-date with package upgrades. If, after any upgrades necessary have been performed, you still see this behaviour, then it is a good idea to open a bug on it.

Can you help with this problem?
