PolicyKit: "Not Authorized to make changes"

Asked by zzzxxx

When going to add/change/delete users I went to click the Authenticate button and found that I couldnt. Next to the lockpad was the message: "Not authorized to make changes". I am the admin on the system, and have sudo powers, and know that I didnt remove myself from the admin group :P

the same thing with Time, Network, LoginWindow, mounting drives...everything with PolicyKit I cant use. a quick work-around thats still functioning is going to the terminal and sudo-ing my way into these apps, but its inconvenient, and makes life really hard with mounting drives, which I do frequently.

I had Ubuntu 9.04, upgraded to 9.10.... help :S

I am having a similar problem. For some reason, I can no longer make any system changes or access my Windows drive (hd0). I could after installing 9.10, but soon lost that ability. From what I have been reading, it has to do with PolicyKit, but I can't find a clear fix.

if no one replies to this thread I'll have to up it as a bug (since no one apparently knows why this is/might be happening)

Going from memory, it seems that the first time I tried to mount my Windows drive (hd0), I got the authenticate box, which is new to Karmic.
I told to to authenticate and got in to that drive that one time only. I tried reinstalling DeviceKit and PolicyKit but no change.

Can PolicyKit and DeviceKit be safely removed completely and reinstalled? I was going to try that, but that trashes the system, I need to be prepared for a clean reinstall.

Also, I tried accessing my Windows drive in a Guest Session and got the Authentication box. Authenticated and got in. And I am still able to access the Windows drive as a Guest, even after a shutdown and restart. But not on my account.

hmm, although our problems can likely be solved the same way, I cant even get an authenticate box on guest, nothing, nil, nada. I need to get policy-kit reset, with its default config in place

I am also getting the same notification from them whenever I try to use the features I have done everything which required as you can see here https://oyunclubnet.com/mp3-juice/ some of the projects details and please share your knowledge experience.

Can you help with this problem?
