karmic will not boot to screen

Asked by karlrhs

I have attempted the upgrade to Karmic from Jaunty and I never would get a display. I then attempted a clean install of Karmic and I still do not get a display. My monitor reads frequency out of range. I have installed Linux Mint and the problem does not exist.

I have checked the bugs in launchpad and others with my video card are having the same problem. I have a

MSI NX7600GS-TD256 GeForce 7600GS 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card

Many people have filed bugs with this same hardware. I have attempted irc #ubuntu but no one would help me get a working Ubuntu.

any suggestions.

This also happens when I use the regular install disk the only way I was able to install Karmic was to use the text only alternate CD.

I do not think it is related to the nv driver because I am starting from a fresh install with the alternate install cd. The regular install cd also will never get to a screen with this hardware.

Do you know what the bug number is so I can link to to this question? The best advice I can give you is to follow the initial bug report and check back on a regular basis to see if anyone has found a work around yet. The answer forum cannot help you solve a bug unfortunately.

Can you help with this problem?
