I'm assuming that you've got a cross over cable between the Linux box and the windows machine?

If so, to setup internet connection sharing install a program called firestarter:

> sudo apt-get install firestarter

To then setup file sharing go to the 'System' menu and under 'Administration' select 'Shared Folders'. This will give you options to setup file sharing and share particular folders.

Have you installed firestarter? There is more information about setting it up at:

You will probably want to install a DHCP server on your Linux box or you need to statically configure a IP subnet for both the Linux and the Windows.

USB Cable Modem--------->EXT IP 1.2.3.4/24 Linux Box(Server) INT IP 10.0.0.254 -----------> IP 10.0.0.1 Windows Box(Client)

In this scenario, set the Windows box to have 10.0.0.254 as default gateway.

The "sharing" of the Internet connection is easily done with Firestarter.

Can u tell me what do u mean by External (EXT) IP and InternaL (INT) IP And how can i set both of them?
Please Guide me!

With EXT IP I meant that this is your external IP address, the IP address that your provider assigns you.

INT_IP is you internal IP. A little network that is shared between your Linux and your XP PC.

In this case i'll have to set my EXT IP static becoz the IP assigned by DHCP for my modem is 203.81.197.57.

Do i have to Change it to static for that?

No, my adress for external was just an example (1.2.3.4). You need to continue using DHCP for your external connection.

To configure your internal network to a static IP, read https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/internet/C/connect-to-internet.html
