How to backup all settings of 9.04 before upgrade to 9.10?

Asked by lnovva

I need to backup all settings of 9.04 including font change before upgrade to 9.10. After upgrade, I would like to restore all settings as it was maintained in version 9.04. Is this possible ?

Copy the /home/yourname directory to an external media, then copy it back after installing.

It might help to enable the showing of hidden files in Nautilus to make sure everything is copied properly.

You can also backup /etc/X11/xorg.conf
/etc/samba/smb.conf
/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/hosts

The config for the look and feel of the desktop and apps are stored on a per user basis in your home directory. This will also backup your emails and browser settings

You should have this all backed up anyway if the data is important. No backup == data is disposable
