Forgot password & maybe user, GRUB shows no recovery

Asked by equinephotos

I have gone and looked at this site (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword). It says to pres escape. When I do, a screen comes up showing the Grub4dos menus:

find /ubuntu/disks/boot/grub/menu.1st
find /ubuntu/install/boot/grub/menu.1st
find /menu.1st
find /boot/grub/menu.1st
find /grub/menu.1st
commandline
reboot
halt

Use the up or down key to highlight an entry. Press enter or "b" to boot
Press "e" to edit the commands before booting , or "c" for a command line.

Where can I get to the recovery menu from here. I tried the commands and was brought to: grub >
When tab is pressed there are a paragraph of commands, nothing that says recovery.

How can I get to the recovery menu to reset my password and User from the above commands?

You can also get a recovery console by booting from the cd.

I downloaded 9.10, burned the cd image foe the iso using burn image and started computer into win xp.

Executed wube, this then gave me 3 options, 1: run in demo from cd, 2: UN-install the version on my system, 3:i forget

I uninstalled rebooted back to win xp, ran wubi and picked the number 2 option: Install through windows...

This worked. I was educated about wubi being able to uninstall a previous version of ubuntu.
