Bareword and rename help...

I'm trying to rename my flash drive. I go into terminal and i type "sudo rename FLASHDRIVE DERP" without the quotes it responds with "Bareword "FLASHDRIVE" not allowed while "strict subs" in use at (eval 1) line 1."

I'm not a complete linux noob but try to explain my problem and answer in simplest terms possible
