how do i cange applications icon

ok you know the ubuntu logo next to applications is it possible to change this icon and maybye even add icons to the other things like places and system?

Go and download Ubuntu Tweak ( http://ubuntu-tweak.com/ ).
You can change the main menu's icon there.
