my computer will not boot up

Asked by todd4523

I looked at the questions asked previously but I don't think any of them fit my situation, I press the power button and it starts to boot up and then it just stops doing anything, at first I thought it need to be charged but after I charged the computer it did the same thing. I took out the battery and it still won't boot up. I'm not sure if my computer is still underwarnety and if I can send it in to you guys to get it fixed, because it never came with a Ubuntu boot up disk and I need my computer for school and work.

There is one thing you can try and that is to download a live ubuntu cd, thats how I installed it on my computer, you can get it from this link: http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download

make sure your laptop is set to boot from the cd drive, you will find that in the bios settings of your computer, I hope this helps.

Could you please provide me with more information:

When it starts, does the harddisk led lights (or blinks) after the PC seems frozen?
Is there anything on the display (and what: Text, Graphic, nothing)?
Which Ubuntu version do you have?

I'm afraid, that your hardware or BIOS could have a damage.

To simply check out, if the harddisk has problems:
Insert the Ubuntu 9.04 CD and boot from there.
If this works:
Check the integrity of the CD
if it's o.k. Start a life session, where you can look at your harddrive.

If the Life CD doesn't work either - as I am afraid - there could be a problem to your BIOS (there shoud at least be some info on your Screen!) or your Screen itself.

Can you help with this problem?
