battery won't charge and light fashes constantly when plugged in

Is the battery icon reporting the correct level, or can it not see the battery at all? If it can't see the battery, try removing it, blow into the contacts, wipe them down and plug it back in.

If it can see the battery, try a different power point. You could also try running it from the battery only for a couple of seconds and see if it stays on. It will help you find out whether the battery needs replacing or not.
