I only havce a CD drive but the distro I want is only available as a DVD iso

Currently I'm using Ubuntu on my laptop, this has a DVD reader and CD R/W.
I have an old PC, 1gb memory 2.3ghz proc, it has an IDE HD and IDE CD.
What I want to do is install Ubuntu studio onto this machine but this is only available as a DVD iso so I can't burn a DVD to disk and if I could I would be unable to use it on the PC as it's only got a CD drive.
I have got the DVD iso copied onto a USB disk (unfortunately it wont boot off USB).
I have booted the PC using an 8.04 CD and can see the iso on the USB disk.
So is there a way to....
1, Split a DVD iso onto 2 CD iso's (I doubt it).
2, Boot of an Ubuntu CD but get it do install a different version from a USB disk?
