Vidalia thinks another instance is running.

Asked by laptoplinux

Every time I launch Vidalia I get the following message:

"Another Vidalia process is possibly already running. If there really is not another Vidalia process running, you can choose to continue anyway. Would you like to continue starting Vidalia?"

As best I can determine there is never another Vidalia process running and I just select continue with no problem. However it is annoying. Any ideas? Maybe I haven't configured something correctly?

Thanks

yes because its still running

kill 3613; kill 3996

Then retry. If that dosnt work, you can use

kill -9 3613; kill -9 3996

btw, hashing your username doesnt achieve much but I guess it causes no harm

So whenever I boot my PC I should kill this process before launching Vidalia? Is there a way that I can keep it from loading and have it only start when I launch the application?

You could use bum to stop it starting at boot.

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't familiar with bum.

I am just curious though. Is it tor and/or privoxy that I want to stop from starting on boot? I don't see vidalia in the services or startup and shutdown listings. Only tor and privoxy. Thanks.

Not sure really. I dont use either as I don't wear a tinfoil hat.

Have a play, see what you can find is all I can suggest. Maybe someone else can advise.

Can you help with this problem?
