Where to place ICC profiles?

Asked by Paul

Hello all,

While I was typing this question, I already found the answer. However, as several google searches didn't gave my any clue on what the answer could be, I still would like to record this for the masses. Apologies if this isn't really that helpful or my answer is just wrong. I am not that experienced with Ubuntu.

The question:

Where to put ICC color profiles, so you can use them in e.g. GIMP, Scribus, Inkscape and so on? There are many ICC profiles on the web, many nowadays needed by designers and artists. However, if you are new to linux, there is no easy way of finding out where to put this (which directory in Ubuntu). Sure, you can install common ICC profiles through synaptic. But where to download, copy and paste the icc profiles found on the internet?

The answer:

./user/share/color/icc

(you will have to make this directory if it doesn't exist yet. Don't forget you need root (sudo) rights to copy-paste in that directory.

Hi :)

Have you been able to try the new Ubuntu 10.04 before it gets officially released?
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/testing/lucid/beta2
Trying it as a LiveCd or as an extra dual/multi-boot would be ideal. Developers and everyone are keen to try to iron out any problems before 10.04 gets officially released so you might find faster & more effective answers to your bug reports which would make 10.04 work better on your system for you

Thanks and regards from
Tom :)
