On the top taskbar, just to the right of the menu "System" should be a 'Firefox' icon it's gold and blue and should open a web-browser called Firefox. This should already allow you to surf the internet but sometimes it doesn't pick-up on your internet connection. Please let us know how you're trying to connect to the internet and we might be able to help

Good luck and regards from

Also on the top taskbar but at the far right should be a button that brings up a box that gives choices such as "Shutdown" and "Reboot"

I hope this helps!

Oh you are referencing Tom. Are you using KDE by any chance?

I think he's using the Netbook Remix and thus a completely different DE. "No bars" sounds like it's not KDE or Gnome and i haven't any experience with the UNR and don't even know which DE they use and haven't found any screenshots of it either :(

Actually, the UNR has a top bar as this screenshot shows:

http://microteknologias.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/ubuntu-netbook-remix-3.jpg

KDE does not have a top bar, only a bottom bar:

http://news.opensuse.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/kde4.png

Hence me asking

UNR does sound likely, You will find a little red power symbol in the top right corner, you can use that to power of and on as well as restart your system.

If you wish to revert back to factory defaults you can boot to recovery root console and delete all the hidden folders (ones starting with a '.') and then log back in, you will then get stock bog-basic settings for ALL apps (you can see these by running: ls -a and delete them with rmdir <directory name to remove>)

Hope this is what you mean. By the way if you lost you panel you can get it back by pressing F2 and typing:

gnome-panel

and hitting enter, if the system says it does not exist then you will need to press ALT+F2 and type:

gnome-terminal

and pres enter, then type:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install gnome-panel

then try rerunning the gnome-panel program as above.

Hi Daneil if English isn't your 1st language then please use your main language to tell us about the problem. It would be good if you could re-post this as a new question because Launchpad doesn't deal with older questions well. Posting it again would give more people a chance to answer
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+addquestion

It seems you have 2 problems
1. Internet connection
2. Switching the machine off

Have you been able to turn the machine off using the "Logg Off" button that looks like a door or by using the little red and white button up the very top right?

Thanks, good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Hi :)

Have you been able to try the new Ubuntu 10.04 before it gets officially released?
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/testing/lucid/beta2
Trying it as a LiveCd or as an extra dual/multi-boot would be ideal. Developers and everyone are keen to try to iron out any problems before 10.04 gets officially released so you might find faster & more effective answers to your bug reports which would make 10.04 work better on your system for you

Thanks and regards from
Tom :)

Can you help with this problem?
