not detecting 5.1 channel on D945GCLF2

Asked by Mark Cariaga

I'm using an Atom-based desktop using an Intel mainboard: D945GCLF2.

The 5.1 channel audio is not detected by default. Is there a way to tweak / enable it?

Will this issue be resolved in Karmic?

http://ubuntulinuxhelp.com/enable-51-surround-sound-on-linux-ubuntu-804-hardy/

should get you sorted. You will need to run

gksudo gedit <whatever file name you are told to edit>

so that you can save the changes, backup ANY files it says to edit so you can easily roll back if the editting doesn't work.

Did you try a reboot after ditting the file. It can help but purists say reboots aren't needed.

Finally this worked:

In my /etc/modprobe.d/options there was a line that said

options snd-hda-intel model=laptop

I replaced that with

options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-6ch-dig

( I found this in ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1072792&page=2 )

Thanks for the prompt response guys :)

Moving forward, can there be a graphical option where this can be added.? or update the 5.1 channel / surround sound wiki
