Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter not working on Ubuntu 9.0.4

Hi,

I am having issues connecting to my wireless network. I have been following this thread: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/71838 , but it would seem that there was not an answer. I reinstalled, but that did not solve my issue. I've tried the suggestions from Mark and this is what I get:

Could you explain what exactly is the "issue" you are facing when connecting to the wireless network ?

I am able to see the broadcast from the router, but when I try to connect, I get caught up in a loop of password requests. Therefore I am never connected. It is a Intel Celeron processor, with a built in wireless. The ethernet card works on the mobo, I am able to connect via wire.

Do you need to set your IP address manually or does the router set your IP address via DHCP.

If your router does not offer DHCP, you will have to set your IP address manually for the Wireless Network that you want to connect to.

I suppose if you connect to that same network via a wired connection, you can use to same IP address settings for the Wireless connection as well

My router is set for DHCP. Which I believe is actually easier to work with in linux. I am fairly new to the Linux environment so am not to sure on what I am really looking at.

This means that you are being assigned the IP address by the router automatically, but it cannot authenticate your password.

Either check that you are entering the correct password, by checking the router password settings and/or check that your wireless security options are set correctly according to the wireless encryption that the router provides.
Sometimes small differences in the wireless security settings are the reasons why the router cannot authenticate you

I think you are misunderstanding me. I know what DHCP is and how to set up my router. When I said I am fairly new to this, I was referring to Linux as I said in my previous post.

I know what my wireless settings are, I am able to connect 3 labtops and 2 iphones to it. So it is not my router settings.

I meant the wireless settings in the NetworkManager in Ubuntu

Sometimes I have found that they differ somewhat in comparison to Windows in some of the names of the key settings.

If you have WPA 1/2 encryption, you will need to set the TKIP and/or MSCHAP version number too.

Sometimes my wireless seems to break with network-manager as well and I cannot connect.
Actually I use 'Wicd' , which is an alternative to network-manager and will remove network-manager
Wicd will allow you to connect to wired and wireless networks, but if you want to have additional functionality like connecting to 3G mobiles or VPN connections, you won't get that in Wicd (you will have that in NetworkManager)

You can install Wicd by running the following on the Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal

$ sudo aptitude install wicd

Hmm, it would seem that wicd works... I am able to connect wireless now, but I am not trying to be limited with my wireless capabilities. I would like to be able to tether my phone and have the ability to use VPN. So in able to do those I would probably need to get network manager to work? Would it be driver issues?

I am not too sure about that.
I suggest you file a bug about network manager

I will test out NetworkManager again and if I get the same problem, I'll confirm it in the bug report.

Also show the output of
$ apt-cache policy network-manager | grep 'Installed'

after you have installed network-manager again

I suggest you try adding this repository to your /etc/apt/sources.list file

I had a look around and found these two bug reports, they somewhat relate to that problem, and I am going to check whether they solve my problem as well, since like you, I would definitely prefer to use NetworkManager rather than Wicd due to the added functionality.
