Can't install Canonical multi-codec .deb

I'm having a problem installing the fluendo multi-codec .deb for some reason now, and the error message is very cryptic:

your .deb file provides a package that is already provided by gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad. You first need to remove gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad from your system.
