Remote access

Asked by Ricardo Carnevalli

I would like to put an ubuntu server in my home LAN and access it from MS-Windows (XP and Vista) computers. I`ll not put video and mouse on that server, so I would like to access it, using gdm, starting from the login window. I found something about that on Internet, but it doesn`t work. Things like editing /etc/gdm/Init/Default to start the vino-server and /etc/gdm/gdm.conf to prevents vino-server from being killed right after login, I had tried yet, without complete success. I don`t know how I can start the XDMCP protocol. Maybe, it`s the way. All setup variations in System-administration-login window and System-preferences-remote desktop I tried, unsuccessfully. I don`t know what is wrong.

Hi, I think that using the XDMCP or vino-session are possible only with server X installed in your server.
To default the server edition doesn't install graphical components (server X). You can try to use XDMCP with classical desktop edition end after, if that solution likes you,so try with server.
