after installation there is no graphical display

well my friend installed ubuntu 8.04....but after installation there is no display graphically but he can work on command line interface which shows that it has been installed correctly .
it has been installed by dual booting

there is no X11 directory in /etc and i couldn't find xorg.conf file.

Hi, is your friend sure to have installed Ubuntu Desktop edition? Probably he has installed server edition, that is without graphical mode.
