You are on the Jaunty I suppose.

It seems to me something is generally missed.
How do you upgrade? Via Add/Remove or Update Manager or terminal?
If you upgrade via GUI (the first two options) so first check System-->Administration-->Software Sources to see where from and what is set to upgrade on your system.
Please.

I think it is not related with ubuntu. please notify about that problem to apturl administrators.

You didn't know that but the problem is: why system didn't tell you you have (or you have to) upgrade(s). Think of it and mind it, please.
Is now the Jackalope working well on your system?

the system is supposed to tell me to upgrade? umm.. i can't open text files (created before in Windows) directly. I have to use openoffice to look at them.

Yes it is. Depending on your configuration of Update Manager it even could do it in background without asking you. Have a look on System-->Administration-->Software Sources.

"I have to use openoffice to look at them." It's normal. Do you mind?
