sending gnome-panel actions from launcher

I have started experimenting with my gnome desktop and would like to understand how to issue panel actions from a launcher like 'lock' or 'logout'. I want to have my panel hidden at most times and work through a common set of launchers on my desktop for most (99%) of the time. I making this easy for me and my kids. Obviously I want a launcher to logout. I looked at the applet config through gconf-editor, but can not see how to send the logout actions to the panel from a launcher.... help????

How do I send panel actions through CLI?

Thanks for your question.

Lock: gnome-session-save --kill --silent
Logout: gnome-screensaver-command --lock

Just create your own launcher.

Thank you for your reply... I made launchers immediately.. (reversed the lock/logout no biggie).

How do I get the Ubuntu 'dialog box which lets you choose to lock/logout/switch user or power management states?

You can't, as it's an gnome applet, not a standalone gnome application.
