Ubuntu Installation type won't select USB2?

Asked by Ken

Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS jammy is running a bootable USB1 with ubuntu-22.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso.

Installing ubuntu-22.04.3-desktop-amd64 to USB2 won't progress at the Install menu Installation type?

USB2 is selected as /dev/sde with 16.1 GB free space and Device for boot loader installation: /dev/sde General USB Flash Disk (16.1GB) is selected.

However the Install Now button is greyed out?

Also, not sure why there's 2 fields to select USB2 in the top and bottom fields?

If your making a initial installation use USB1 that is available.
If you are trying to flash the O.S. download file to another USB.
Use https://etcher.balena.io/
Etcher will flash the .ios to USB.
"Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS jammy is running a bootable USB1"
Live boot of this O.S. is able to install on the hard drive.
https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/install-ubuntu-desktop#1-overview
"there's 2 fields to select USB2"
That could be due to a hardware problem with the 2 USBs linked
to the same port on the motherboard.
On Ubuntu's live install on the Desktop their is a hard drive icon.
Double click it, this should start the installer process.
Am I misunderstanding your question?

Solved.
1. Formatted Disk2 to Ext4, using Ubuntu app Disks;
2. Cleaned Disk2 of any bugs, using Terminal$ sudo gdisk /dev/sdb -> select "o" -> select "w";
3. Checked Disk2 was mounted, using Terminal$ sudo partprobe /dev/sdb;
4. Ran installer from USB1;
5. Added partitions: efi 512 MB, swap 8196 MB and remaining storage as ext4 mounting to /;
6. Selected boot loader /dev/sdb1 (needs to be set to what the efi partition is);
7. Selected Install Now.
