load V9.04 without losing programs and data

how can i load it up without losing progams an data?
how can i transfer all of my tomboy notes?

If 9.04 is on Cd then you'll need to add the Cd as a repository and refresh and then close Synaptic and open "Update Manager", this should now have an Upgrade button lit up at the top right corner.

Usually before doing a huge upgrade like this it's well worth copying your /home folder onto external drive or dvd's or something as that should contain all your personal data & settings for all the users on the machine (except root user)
