what to change when there is there no clock ubuntu 22.04 new install

Asked by michael

Just installed Ubuntu 22.04. This is first time I have used Upgrade To. Have always made a CD/DVD. There is NO clock on screen. Also only one half of the X (click out of). Only one half of the vertical bar with icons for files, internet browser, terminal, LibreOffice and others. The icons that should be round are football (American) shaped.
Dell Inspiron 620
6.0 Gib memory
disk 3.0TB
Graphics llvmpipe (LLVM 13.0.1, 256 bits)
On Settings, Displays. --- Unknown Display and Resolution CANNOT be changed.

This computer has Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04 and neither has this problem. 21.10 Upgraded from, did not have this problem.

Appreciate any help. I am old and forgot many things.

New install then you say other upgrades..?
There is a clock on every Ubuntu.
Perhaps you did not check the checksum and verify the download.

This should answer all of your very diverse questions..
Check your download could be corrupt.

Thanks Bernard Stafford for your answer. I forgot to check the SHA256. Not remembering, I googled (If you have Ubuntu 22.04 installed, how to use the terminal to find "SHA256 code"?) The answers I got: how to install Chromium Web Browser, install Hyper Terminal, install XAMPP, install Mathpic Snip, Tilix Terminal Emulator, and Microsoft Teams, and many more unrelated answers.

There are more things wrong with 22.04, randomly the screen goes black for 1 or 2 seconds, now NO internet, provider said it's OK. On the 20.044 and 18.04 internet still works fine. I think I will remove 22.04, and download to DVD a copy, and install the way I have done in the past.
If you could direct me to the way to find md5sum of SHA256, I would appreciate it.
Getting old in not for the faint of heart!

Thanks again.

Problems solved! The 22.04 had other problems that I did not mention. One was that grub screen did not change from 21.10 to 22.04. I was sure that had nothing to do with problems. Was wrong. When I updated grub, all problems are gone!!! Thank you Bernard Stafford for your help.

You may get a higher reaction by using asking round at the Ubuntu Community Forums, where you would possibly find out if there is a suitable utility to be had already. If no longer, you may find a few like minded individuals who might be inquisitive about building such an app. Other options might be too go searching on sourceforge or any of the other open supply hubs of activity.
