Ubuntu 9.04 crashes approximately 1 minute after start up.

Asked by Gck2702

When Ubuntu starts up, everything works fine.
I can access menus, I can open applications.. and then, suddenly: Nothing. It just freezes. Both keyboard and mouse is unresponsive. I rebooted it, and it happened again, each time after approximately one minute

My specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3600+ 2.01GHz
1023MB of RAM.
NVidia GForce 7600GT Graphics Card.

ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated!

 desktop or portable computer?
Is this a new install or a previously functioning installation?

can you boot to live CD and mount the partition that contains your log files and trace the cause?
can you boot to "fail safe" kernel option available at bootloader screen?
did you do a memory check from bootloader screen?
 is this a dual-boot environment?
rooting through the log files will tell you which device driver failed.

Same problem with me too. Always when I am streaming data on Mozilla.
HP Laptop, AMD 64 bit Dual core.
2 GB ram, Nvidia 7200 256 Mb grapics processor. Will provide more info shortly.
Previous Ibex installation worked fine. Dual boot environment.

Mine doesn't crash 1 minture after startup, but at different times. But crashes always while streaming data. Planning to down grade it.

Mine too crashes 1-2 mins (70 seconds when I timed it) after the first graphical interface loads. Will even freeze at the logon screen if I don't log in, though it takes a couple more minutes.
Happens with 9.04 64-bit and 32-bit both running as a Live CD or as installed in a dual-boot environment with XP.
I can boot into recovery mode successfully and the Memory Test completed without errors. Running the xfix graphics option under recovery mode didn't solve the problem.

I've got:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Gigabyte Mobo GA K8NS F11 with NVidia nForce3 250 chipset
1.5G DDR 400 RAM (not ECC)
Leadtek WinFast NVidia A6600 GT TDH 128M (AGP)
Swap file was enlarged to 3G
Installed partition is 8G or thereabouts and most of that's free space

Can you help with this problem?
