virtual device asks to queue packet on shutdown

Asked by Tim Wetzel

Since the most recent kernel update in LTS 20.04.1 earlier this week (today is Dec 4 2020), I am seeing a message "virtual device wlp4s0 asks to queue packet" on shutdown. This occurs every couple shutdowns, and appears after the Ubuntu spinning logo shutdown page and just before "powering down" which then also appears.

This looks like an old bug that is back: #432827 from about 10 years ago?

I've already got issues with 4 other bugs that have re-appeared since the mid-September updates. LTS 20.04 was doing just fine until then, but has been very troublesome since mid September. This appears to be a fifth one?

Anyone else seeing this?

You need to complete your bug report. Open a terminal and input: apport-collect -p linux 432827 and put this with your bug report. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport

Bernard, apport does not allow further comments on that bug since it expired like 10 years ago.
Should we open a new one and if so, should it be for the kernel?
The only similar bug that launchpad reports is 1906817 but what Tim and I have noticed doesn't affect the system so severely.

So Ubuntu Updater applied a few follow-up updates since I posted this question; and I'm watching this because so far -- since these most recent changes -- I haven't seen this again??? I'll post again in a day or two with observations.

Well... this issue is still there. I had hoped it might be gone, but no such luck ...

I had this issue also. My wireless adapter became non-responsive, I went to shut down the operating system for a reboot, and received very similar messages during the shutdown. Had to hard power off my laptop to complete shutdown.

I can confirm, that I receive the same message since a couple of weeks. But apart from the strange message at shutdown - no impact.
