version HPLIP error multiplies - how to get working system

Asked by John Shakespeare

I'm still on 18 as the package for cherrytree is NFS-constrained.
I would go on cherrytree if it were bundled as a package instead of as a bundle.
sudo apt install cherrytree instead of sudo package install cherrytree,
I have already tried most solutions.
I have an amd64 distribution. Deleting the HP_Color_LaserJet_MFP_M283fdw_6B9C6D_ is permanent.
18.04 disk is checked on installation (fully). The self same errors occur.
20.04 disk is checked on installation (fully).

hp-check -t

shows errors using a new/old HP printer.

or, is it possible to make an automated update of the requisite (and other) packages?

The system is telling you what to install. For example:

sudo apt install libcups2

Should install the first one for you....

sudo apt install libcups2-dev

Try that. Then work through the rest

Remark to cherrytree:
There is a PPA with a package for Ubuntu 20.04 - https://launchpad.net/~giuspen/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

Remark to HPLIP:
If you install hplip from the Ubuntu repository, it will correctly work, although the command "hp-check" may still indicate errors.
