Asked by Budd Cochran

I went to a Mint forum looking for help then opened a terminal and used the info i found there to install the drivers. using (lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net; rfkill list) i get:

07:04.0 Network controller [0280]: Ralink corp. RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI [1814:0301]
 Subsystem: Ralink corp. EW-7108PCg/EW-7128g [1814:2561]
 Kernel driver in use: rt61pci

3f:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries NetXtreme BCM5755 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express [14e4:167b] (rev 02)
 Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company DC5750 Microtower [103c:280a]
 Kernel driver in use: tg3
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
 Soft blocked: yes
 Hard blocked: no

and my wifi disconnects after a while.

The code I used was : (running one line at a time per instructions)

sudo apt-get install dkms git build-essential

git clone -b extended https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git

sudo dkms add ./rtlwifi_new

make

sudo make install

My strongest signal is from my own Spectrum account about 50 feet away at 74% strength.
