Save changes in Ubuntu 8.10 booted from memory stick

Asked by Nico

I want using Ubuntu 8.10 booted from a memory stick. Is it possible to save changes, like the homepage in Firefox, so the next time I'm starting Ubuntu and FireFox from memory stick I'll get the new home page?

How much spare space should I configure on memory stick to update the dowloaded Ubuntu 8.10 ISO-image file with the more than 300 available updates?

Thanks for help.
Nico

Nope you cant you are using the usb stick as a live session.
Install ubuntu on the computer and you can save all the configurations you want.

Hope that helps

What is a Live Session?

A Live session is basically a 'try before you get for free' session you can have through an Ubuntu CD (and some other media)

It is actually possible to have 'persistent' changes which you have described in your question. If you're currently using Ubuntu 8.10 (GNOME) there should be an entry in:

System -> Administration -> Create a USB startup disk

Use this to install the Ubuntu .iso file or CD to the memory stick. Also, be sure to allocate some memory for documents and changes with the option towards the bottom of the window: 'Stored in reserved extra space:'

This is not recommended for an USB device with less than 2GB of space.
It's also worth mentioning that you can't update without those updates taking all of your space straight away but you can save things like the homepage in Firefox, documents, etc.
