Ubuntu 8.10 will not boot

Asked by John E Pierce

I get this on my screen:

Ubuntu won’t boot
Boot from (hd0,4) ext 3 c33ff487-b477-47b6-9a81-ad4b02d7efc0
Starting up
Loading, please wait
Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:
-boot args (cat /proc/cmdling)
-Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
-Check root= (wait for right device)
ALERT!/dev.disk.by-uuid/c33ff487-b477-47b6-9181-ab4b02d7efc0 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

BusyBoxo v1.10.2 (Ubuntu 1:1.10.2-1ubuntu6) built-in shell (ash)
Enter ‘help’ for a list of built-commances.

(initramfs)

If there is no easy fix I can understand I want to completely uninstall Ubuntu. I have tried uninstalling through the Windows control panel but it does not remove Ubuntu.

Which way should I go? Thanks.

Easy way is to boot from liveCD and try to restore all the partitons and disks as you want them with gparted. Most probably, just reformat the partition to NTFS (FAT32) filesystem.

BEWARE! Read and think twice before you confirm something in gparted!

Little more complicated but safer way is to boot to Windows, log in as admin, right-click on This Computer, select Manage > Volume manager. Then locate partition with linux and format it.

i think this is happening just because of windows present in ur machine. try
to format the fat32 or ntfs partition and then re install ubuntu. this is
happening because windows has deleted ubuntu grub file. always install first
windows and then any version of linux.
