Godsmack,

Make sure that you test your USB medium for defects, also you can check your downloaded ISO for defects with its md5sum:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

I hope this helps.

Installing from Cd is the usually best route but hopefully this helps?

https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/installation-guide/i386/boot-usb-files.html

Using a linux Cd as a LiveCd usually gives a good indication of how easy you'll find it to get all fuctionality you need, and it also helps by flagging up any potential hardware issues. Ubuntu is afr better than most but i thought Acer's had trouble with screen resolution? Did your "Try Ubuntu without installing anything" get you to a decent desktop?

Thanks and regards from
Tom :)

Hi Tom,

First because acer aspire doesn't include a DVD Rom & i don't have a portable DVD so i decided to use USB flash, i used program called (unetbootin) to make bootable USB and it work and boot fine and i chose "Try Ubuntu without installing anything"
but after loading and before logging in the error that i mentioned before appears and i don't know what i should do.

The installer will look for an Ubuntu ISO image on the stick as its source for additional data needed for the installation. So your next step is to copy an Ubuntu ISO image onto your stick (be sure to select one that fits). The file name of the image must end in .iso.

We need to get the LiveCd working before going for an install to hard-drive. I know it's really a LiveUsb but we still call it a LiveCd, just to because Usb sticks are still quite new to some of us ;)

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

There's another question and it seems like you might be able to help answer it
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/66197
They need a LiveCd session from a usb stick, although it isn't an Acer your recent experience might be invaluable to them.

Hope you can help this new noob :)
Good luck and regards from

Hi Tom,

I want to ask you some questions.

Firs: my USB flash was divided into two partitions when i was trying to make it bootable and the program which did that called (HP Drive Key Boot Utility). My USB flash 8 giga now it 4 giga and another invisible 4giga, how can i bring this invisible 4giga back?

Second: the acer laptop which i was trying to install Ubuntu on it i can't start wireless from the lap button or from the system. In hardware driver i sow the driver of the wireless and it was active. How can i start wireless connection?

Third: thanks tom

Oh, please post these as new questions and try to post these as 2 separate questions
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+addquestion
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+addquestion

I'm not sure about wireless at all but there's lots at the front-desk usually that might be able to help.

Did you manage to install Ubuntu? If so can Ubuntu see the invisible part of the Usb? I think i would save all the usb data safely onto hard-drive and then reformat the Usb using gparted. However you might want to keep the usb bootable? Is the invisible part the boot partition, sorry i'm tired and not thinking straight.

Good luck and g'nite, regards from
Tom :)
