my laptop dosent boot. It hangs I have windows xp installed on my system. Please help.. How can I make it boot?

Is there any way that I install ubuntu on my laptop and can transfer the XP OS data to it?

Can you provide more information about your system? Is Windows the only OS installed; what does it say when it attempts to boot; what is your laptop model? It is possible to install ubuntu and mount the windows partitions there but I think more information is required to fully answer your question. Please post back and I'll try to help.

Does Windows still boot without trouble? Can you boot up fromt he Ubuntu Cd?

I usually leave Windows on the machine as an option i can boot into if i choose. My Ubuntu then reads all the data i have stored on my Windows partition

I hardly ever use Windows anymore but it's there if i want it for a game or something odd. I use ClamAv (or AVG) in Ubuntu to scan for viruses on the Windows side but Windows viruses don't affect Ubuntu i only bother scanning if i'm about to boot into Windows (or after i have used Windows, depending on what i feel like)
