video playback choppy

Was wondering what i can do to get my VLC media player and or Movieplayer to run smoothly. They both play videos just fine as long as the screen is small one. If i go to full screen they both will play the video but the best description I can give you is it plays like a old vcr tape befor you adjust the tracking. I do have video accelerator on is ther something to fix this annoying problem? Thanx

Hi Matthew,
                     Does you video 'flicker' ??
                     Are you running 'compiz' ?
                     if you are just turn-off 'compiz'.

                     I use the package 'compiz-switch' to turn it on and off.
