Hello !

Which Ubuntu version are you using? Did you try to click on the network icon on top right of your screen? What makes you say you're properly connected to the network?

We need a little more information to diagnose the problem ...

Regards,
Benoît

Something is wrong with the configuration that your ppp0 gets. There is at least the route to the gateway missing. You should have soemthing like

default <gateway address> 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 ppp0

in the routing table.

Usually that should be automatically set when you logon to the dsl. Do you maybe need to authenticate which is not done?

No i dont have to authenticate at least i didnt have to till it worked
i had used sudo pppoeconf command to configure the connection
wherein i had specified my username and password
so i never had to use it after that
it worked fine for 3 months or so

Can you please try to dial in, and paste the output of /var/log/syslog and 'ip ro list' and 'ip addr list' in here? Please also paste /etc/resolv.conf.

Well i have been trying to reply for some time now but kept getting timeout errors
I actually managed to solve the problem some time back
There was a problem with my ISP
There were some major problems and Linux based systems and a few macs were affected
So technically there was nothing wrong with ubuntu
Anyway it has been resolved now
Im sorry for all the trouble
 Thankyou
