To hold both ctrl keys together for some time while locate_pointer is true freezes the keyboard and some other Gnome functions.

I'm talking about ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/%gconf.xml

The time that takes to lock the keyboard by pressing both control keys together varies.

First I thought this bug was connected to Layout switching, but then I disabled that option to use both ctrl keys together to change layout. Now I'm changing layout by the gnome-keyboard-applet.

My keyboard is a (notebook) generic 101 keys. The layout chosen does not interfere with this bug.

Both ctrl keys work fine to show the mouse when pressed separately.

This happens in the 64 bits Ubuntu version provided by Wubi and fully updated on an HP Pavilion dv2000.

/etc/debian_version tells it is lenny/sid .

I'm not sure why you're using both Ctrl keys together - reminds me of the Tommy Cooper sketch "Dr, Dr it hurts when i do this", "Well don't do that then" rofls

If you're having trouble locating your mouse arrow sometimes then maybe it's worth adding eyeballs to the top and bottom taskbars, near opposite corners helps. Also i managed to make my mouse arrow much bigger (i think)

I tried to use them for Layout switching.

I thought: One ctrl to show the mouse. Two ctrls to switch the keyboard layout. But it did not work.

I disabled the Layout switching option and the bug persisted.

I disabled the locate_pointer and the bug vanished.

Try Right-click on the top taskbar and select "Add to Panel" then look for some eyeballs in the gui. Do the same for the bottom panel and then by spooked by eyeballs watching yur every mouse move from above and below ;)

I'm using the eyeballs now, but I'd like this bug to be fixed. Should I press the "Problem Solved" button?

Hmmm, tricky. Sorry, i sent that post out to all the questions i'm subscribed to as i need to get them fixed (although i often lack the expertise). Also need to stop being subscribed to so many. In this case it's worth keeping open i think. Don't worry when the launchpad janitor expires it - it stays logged in the system :)
