8.04 install

Asked by george

I wish to install 8.04 in a partitioned HD my Hd is already partitioned into C: is NTFS OS XP home Media Center. D:is Recovery FAT32. Should I make the new partition ex3, or what? and a second question where does GRUB go when installing 8.04 into the new partition, if that's where I install it. I just don't need to screw up.

Thanks
G

hello george. you have to resize before the ntfs partition using gparted in your live cd. Go to System - Administration - Partition Editor and resize it from there. Apply The changes in gparted and start to install ubuntu. when installing to the partition scheme choose manual and format in ext3 the free partition you created. Dont forget to create also a swap space from the free space you have. Grub Installs in your MBR so dont worry for that. it will not mess up. hope it helps

When I put the Live cd of Ubuntu it gives me the option for partitioning
from there right? Does it also give me an option to create a swap space
at that time or do I need to re-do the ext3 free space to make a "free
space" after the install.

Thanks, sorry to ask so many questions. I have most of the rest figured
out, as have been running it inside widows and want to do a proper
install.

Thank you all.

George
