How do I read the memory test summary?

Asked by harderson02

I am trying to upgrade to 8.10, and I decided to run the memory test. I let the memory test run overnight, because I didn't know that it would run forever on its own. 16 passes occurred with 354,816 errors. I have no idea what this means or how to read the rest of the summary that I copied down. Do I need to purchase new memory, or is this acceptable? My system is an AMD Phenom X4 processor with 2 2048MB 800 DDR2 memory sticks. Thank you.

no you shouldnt have any errors. you may want to purchase new memory from a local retailer and run the test again using only the new memory. if you get no errors with the new memory great! if you continue experiencing the same errors, then its safe to assume the memory is not at fault.

Please replace your ram memory you must don't have any error running memory test...

Tip: if you have more than one memory chip into your motherboard please remove one
- Run memory test again if you get no errors the inserted RAM chip is good.
- Replace the good ram with the other you have unplugged
- Make the test again if you get failure please replace only this defective memory chip.
- Put the working ram into your pc and you must have a working pc.

Hope this helps

I tested the two different memory chips I had and one was bad. After removing that memory chip, my computer is much more stable and is running well. Thank you for your help. Also, I found a website which explains a little bit about what the memory test is telling you. Go to http://www.memtest86.com/ and click on Technical Info on the side bar. Thanks!
