Verizon Wireless Network Card

Asked by Ben Klein

I am currently helping my co-worker set up an Ubuntu system. Do you know (1) if her Verizon Wireless Network Card would be compatible, and (2) if so, how to set it up?

I'm no expert but to see if the wireless is recongnised try :

iwlist scan (in a terminal window)

if the wireless interface is installed successful it will list networks detected by the wireless which might be caleld something like wlan0

From what I could tell, the only line on the back that was legible was:
QUALCOMM 3G COMA

Hope this helps.

Hi,

First try connecting to the 3G network using the NetworkManager icon in the top right corner of the screen. You will need to have Ubuntu 8.10 (or newer) installed in order to use 3G via the NetworkManager icon.

If NetworkManager does not work: If this modem is connected via USB, then please try all suggestions here:

I also recommend downloading and installing the following 2 files from https://forge.betavine.net/frs/?group_id=12&release_id=200

  usb-modeswitch_0.9.4-1_i386.deb
  vodafone-mobile-connect_1.99.17-8_all.deb

Then try connecting to the 3G network using Vodafone Mobile Connect as a replacement for NetworkManager.

Hope it helps,

Regards,

Mark
