Creating new starter fails

Asked by A. Denton

Whenever I want to create a new "starter" (similar to an *.lnk file in Windows) on my (X)ubuntu desktop the window for it pops up with no problem.

From there I can enter a comment and the respective command with ease. Also options and an image can be specified, but as soon as I select the name field and enter the first character (specifiying a name is mandatory to create a starter) the window simply self-closes or crashes.

I haven't yet found a way to debug this. Any suggestions or comments appreciated!

In Gnome open a Terminal and run
 gnome-desktop-item-edit ~/Desktop/something.desktop

Do you get any error messages?

Well.. the problem has solved itself magically after installing and uninstalling some packets. Thank you anyways, Florian! :-)
