Need Striata reader for *.emc files

Asked by Riana Carstens

I need to download the Striata reader to decode my *.emc files or bank statements. The bank has a Linux GUI, and Linux Redhat 6 and 7 available for download. Are any of those mentioned correct for Ubuntu 8.04?

From the following url

http://www.striata.co.uk/_europe/downloads.php

you can download a comand-line executable which may be preferable.

you may find the program in office menu.
or search for it in /usr/shared/applications/
or type in terminal:
sudo (name of the program)

Download the striata-reader.tar.gz file, open with archive manager and extract the striata-reader directory to your home directory.

Open a terminal.

Type the following commands :

cd striata-reader
sudo ./install

Enter your password when prompted, and answer the question regarding the browser you which to use.

To use the striata-reader, download the .emc file to a known directory (say ~/tmp), open a terminal window and type

striata-reader ~/tmp/<filename_for_emc_file_downloaded>

(The striata-reader executables are installed into /usr/bin)

I had to install libstdc++5. And the script won't work on ABSA credit cards because they are in PDF format :

$ apt-get install 'libstdc++5'
...
$ /usr/bin/striata-reader-1.0-27-linux staat.emc
Password:
$ acroread Statement.pdf
