I can't install any programs using Add/Remove

When i try to install programs using Add/ Remove it won't let me i get an error that reads: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct problem. E:_cache->open() failed, please report.
What do i do? Thank you for your time.

Hello Nichols,

please open a terminal and write

sudo dpkg --configure -a

and than you can add und remove what you like to.
