installing in partition

i want to install Ubuntu8.1 in my G drive having a capacity of 8GB.in my system im also using Vista.3 primary & 3logical partitions are in my system C,D & H are primary partitions.while installing i got the window of partitioning the disk i selected hda7 then i dont know wat i hav to do with select as just under that partition size in edit partition.help me i saw more option in select as like NTFS,FAT32..etc.please help me fastly..

i tried to install with the cd i got from Ubuntu which contains ubuntu8.1 Desktop edition

Hi,

things are not clear :

do you have only one drive (assuming Vista is set on this G drive)?
So, please give facts rather in an array format (A drive with this partition with Vista, etc.)

In case, remember before install operations :

First you will backup your data
Second if you have Windows and want to keep it, run the Windows tool to rearrange your disk.
Then go.

You don't know what type of partition it is about (NTFS, FAT,...) so let Ubuntu do it for you.
Anyway Linux systems mostly use EXT3 type.
